Gros Islet and Marchand made emphatic statements on the opening night of the 2025 St Lucia Football Association Semi-Pro League on Sunday, each registering commanding victories to kick off their campaigns in style.

In the Tier 1 Premiership feature match at Mindoo Phillip Park, Gros Islet cruised to a 3-0 win over newly promoted South Castries. The tone was set early when Jahlil Evans struck in the 4th minute, catching the South Castries defence off guard. The pressure continued, and just before halftime, Troy Greenidge doubled the advantage in the 44th minute. Sherman Augustin then capped the performance with a well-placed finish in the 51st, sealing a dominant night for the experienced Gros Islet squad.

Earlier in the evening, Marchand, the home team and the pride of the Prime Minister’s constituency opened their Tier 2 campaign with a solid 3-1 victory over Laborie.

Lincoln Phillip gave Marchand an early advantage with a composed finish in the 13th minute, followed by Naz Valcin, who made it 2-0 with a powerful strike in the 25th. Laborie responded with a glimmer of hope in the 38th, as Zack Boland pulled one back with a well-taken effort, setting the stage for a tense second half.

However, Marchand held firm and saw out the match to claim all three points in front of a supportive home crowd.

With both teams off to winning starts, the 2025 Semi-Pro League season promises high-intensity matchups and fierce competition as clubs across the island battle for promotion, pride, and silverware.
