No batsman in the region has had a better time of it in the CG United Super50 Cup over the last two editions than Justin Greaves.

As such, the 31-year-old Barbadian was named as the Regional Super50 Player of the Year at the eighth CWI/WIPA Awards Gala at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle on Sunday.

After joining the Leeward Islands Hurricanes from the Windward Islands Volcanoes in 2023, Greaves hit the ground running on his new team, scoring 403 runs in seven innings at an average of 80.60, hitting one century and three half centuries.

Greaves followed that up with an even better season in 2024. In just five innings, Greaves scored 401 runs at an average of 133.66.

His first three innings of the season saw him record centuries with his highest score being 151*.

In the midst of these performances, Greaves earned a recall to the West Indies ODI team who he debuted for against Ireland back in 2022.

“Pretty much just hard work throughout the year,” is what Greaves put his success down to when speaking to CWI Media Officer Jerome Foster after receiving his award on Sunday.

“Coming in to the Leewards getting a new opportunity with a new team so I just focused on grabbing it with both hands and really enjoying my time there. Feels good. Like I said, another opportunity in a different territory. Getting accustomed to the culture and getting accustomed to the guys and how they maneuver on and off the field so when I can contribute to the team, I am always happy with that,” he added.

Hopefully, Greaves can channel his regional dominance to the international scene, starting with the West Indies’ home series against Australia beginning on Wednesday in Barbados.
