Reigning champions Guyana Harpy Eagles found themselves in a spot of bother on the opening day of their third-round West Indies Championship contest against West Indies Academy at Providence on Wednesday.

The Harpy Eagles closed the day at 87-4 in the day/night encounter, struggling against the left-arm medium pace of Jediah Blades, who has so far claimed three of the four wickets for just 15 runs. Kemol Savory, on 20, and Kevin Sinclair, on eight, will resume batting for the Harpy Eagles on Thursday.

After opting to bat first, the Harpy Eagles suffered early setbacks as Matthew Nandu (1), captain Tevin Imlach (4), and Raymond Perez (29) all fell to Blades, leaving them reeling at 37-3. Kevlon Anderson (22) and Savory attempted to steady the innings, adding 39 runs before Anderson was trapped leg-before by Johann Layne.

Rain then intervened, providing some relief to the Harpy Eagles' batsmen as they now have time to reassess their approach in hopes of pushing their side to a competitive total on day two.
