JPresident of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), Dr. Donovan Bennett, has thrown his full support behind Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow and Vice President Azim Bassarath, as both men prepare to serve a second consecutive term at the helm of regional cricket administration.

Dr. Bennett, speaking with local media in Jamaica, affirmed the JCA’s backing of both officials, emphasizing the progress West Indies cricket has made under their leadership.

“When we were asked to nominate the president of the Trinidad board, we had no problem in doing it; the same thing with the president. We are supportive of the president, Jamaica, because of how he has treated Jamaica. He has been instrumental in bringing international cricket back to Jamaica, so we are satisfied with what has been happening,” Dr. Bennett said. “We are satisfied with the progress that has taken place in West Indies Cricket. It hasn’t reached the heights that most people would want, but the fact is we are on a positive trajectory and we are happy with the two gentlemen.”

CWI confirmed this week that Dr. Shallow and Bassarath were both nominated unopposed and will officially begin their second term on March 29, 2025, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Antigua, where the organization is headquartered.

The nominations underline the confidence and widespread support Shallow and Bassarath continue to receive from stakeholders across the Caribbean. Dr. Shallow’s nomination was put forward by the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB), while Vice President Bassarath’s nomination was submitted by the JCA and the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB).

This marks the second successive election in which Dr. Shallow has been elected unopposed, a reflection of the continued trust placed in his leadership. During his tenure, he has spearheaded developmental programs, strengthened grassroots cricket, and played a key role in enhancing the governance structure within CWI.

His deputy, Azim Bassarath, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), has also been instrumental in supporting the region’s cricketing initiatives, including efforts to improve high-performance development and administrative stability.

With their leadership now reaffirmed for another term, the focus will be on ensuring that West Indies cricket continues its upward trajectory, with renewed efforts to enhance player development, strengthen domestic competitions, and improve the team’s competitiveness on the global stage.
