West Indies Women’s all-rounder Chinelle Henry has been signed by UP Warriorz (UPW) as an injury replacement for Australian star and team captain Alyssa Healy in the upcoming 2025 edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Healy has been ruled out of the tournament due to a stress injury in her right foot.
Henry, a 29-year-old middle-order batter and quick bowler, joins the Lucknow-based franchise for her first WPL stint. She has been in strong form leading up to the tournament, impressing on West Indies’ tour of India late last year. She smashed a 16-ball 43 in the final T20I of the series and followed it up with a composed 72-ball 61 in the third ODI. Across her T20I career, Henry has played 62 matches, amassing 473 runs at a strike rate of 91.13 while also claiming 22 wickets.
Healy, who captained UP Warriorz in the inaugural WPL season, had initially missed the T20I leg of the Women’s Ashes before passing a late fitness test to play the concluding Test match. However, after featuring in Australia’s only innings and scoring 34 runs, she confirmed her unavailability for the WPL and the subsequent T20I series against New Zealand, which begins shortly after the league’s final on March 15.
The UP Warriorz franchise, owned by Capri Global, is coached by Jon Lewis and reached the eliminator in the inaugural WPL season before falling short against Mumbai Indians. With Henry’s inclusion, UPW aims to bolster their squad as they look to make a strong push for the WPL 2025 title.
