West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell and Indian batsman Unmukt Chand starred for the Los Angeles Knight Riders as they defeated the Seattle Orcas by six wickets on Sunday at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas for their first win of the 2025 Major League Cricket season.
The Orcas first posted 177-6 from their 20 overs after captain Heinrich Klaasen won the toss and chose to take first strike.
Barbados-born USA international Aaron Brown was the highest scorer for the Orcas with 44 off 36 balls including a four and two sixes while openers David Warner and Shayan Jahangir hit 38 and 26, respectively.
Shimron Hetmyer also hit an important 19 off 12 balls towards the end of the innings.
Russell was the star of the show with the ball, picking up 3-30 from his four overs including the wickets of Warner and Hetmyer.
The Knight Riders then got to 178-4 in 18.2 overs for their first points of the season after four games.
Chand, a former India Under-19 captain, was brilliant throughout the chase, scoring 86* from 58 balls including 10 fours and four sixes.
Saif Badar also showed some good form with 54 off 32 balls including two fours and four sixes while Sherfane Rutherford’s late blitz of 20* from nine balls helped seal victory.
