Nicholas Pooran’s Lucknow Super Giants suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) action in Lucknow on Monday.
Openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram both hit half centuries as the Super Giants posted 205-7 from their 20 overs after losing the toss and being put in to bat.
Marsh led the way with 65 off 39 balls including six fours and four sixes while Markram supported well with 61 off 38 balls including four fours and four sixes.
Pooran, batting at number four instead of three for the first time this season, was the only other batsmen to reach double figures with 45 off 26 balls including six fours and one six.
Sri Lankan pacer Ehsan Malinga led the charge for the Sunrisers with the ball with 2-28 from his four overs.
The Sunrisers then, on the back of some excellent power hitting from opener Abishek Sharma, needed only 18.2 overs to reach 206-4 and secure victory.
Sharma hit six sixes and four fours on his way to a top score of 59 from 20 balls while South African Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan provided good support with 47 off 18 balls and 35 off 28 balls, respectively.
This defeat put an end to Lucknow's hopes of securing a playoff spot with two games remaining.
