Marcus Stoinis has announced his immediate retirement from ODI cricket, ruling himself out of Australia's squad for this month's ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
The all-rounder will now focus on T20s after a career that saw him score 1,495 runs and take 48 wickets.
Stoinis was a member of the Australia squad that won the 2023 ODI World Cup, but has played just one match since, and has ruled himself out of contention moving forward.
He said: "Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for every moment I've had in the green and gold.
"Representing my country at the highest level is something I'll always cherish.
"This wasn't an easy decision, but I believe it's the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I'll be cheering the boys on in Pakistan."
Stoinis' finest hour in an Australia ODI shirt was arguably against New Zealand in 2017 when he smashed 146 off 117 deliveries to pull his side close to a highly improbable victory.
His announcement will force Australia to rethink their all-rounder selections for the upcoming competition, with Mitch Marsh ruled out with a back injury and Pat Cummins unlikely to feature either.
Coach Andrew MacDonald said: "Stoin has been such a pivotal part of our ODI setup for the past decade.
"Not only has he been an invaluable player, but also an incredible person to have in the group. He is a natural leader, an exceptionally popular player and a great person.
"He should be congratulated on his ODI career and all of his achievements."
Australia will now have to make numerous changes to their ICC Champions Trophy squad, as along with Stoinis' retirement, captain Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out through injury. The final squad will be announced following their second Test against Sri Lanka.
