Jamaica reasserted its regional sprint dominance by capturing three of the four 4x100m relay titles to close out an electrifying second day of the 52nd Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday night. In a show of consistency and crowd-pleasing resilience, the host nation claimed medals in all four relays to keep their home supporters on their feet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The first of Jamaica’s three gold medals came in the U17 girls' 4x100m, where their quartet stormed to a new Carifta Games record of 44.86 seconds, erasing the previous mark and holding off a strong challenge from the Bahamas, who finished second in 45.30. Trinidad and Tobago clinched bronze in 45.96, marking the beginning of a promising night for the home team.
In the U20 girls’ 4x100m relay, Jamaica once again proved untouchable. Their team sped to victory in 43.65, comfortably ahead of the Bahamas (44.65) and Trinidad and Tobago (44.76), who were separated by just a whisker in the battle for silver.
The U20 boys closed the relay segment in style, with Jamaica producing a blistering 39.56 to edge a determined Trinidad and Tobago team (39.75). Barbados completed the podium with 40.43 to earn bronze.
The lone relay gold not claimed by Jamaica went to the Bahamas in the U17 boys' race. Their team delivered a smooth and composed performance to win in 41.11, with Grenada following close behind in 41.40. Trinidad and Tobago, maintaining their presence on every podium, secured another bronze with a 41.61 finish.
While Jamaica reaffirmed its traditional sprint supremacy, the big takeaway for the hosts was their consistency. With bronze in both U17 relays and a silver and bronze in the U20 categories, Trinidad and Tobago’s sprint program showed encouraging depth across all age groups.
As the sun set on Day 2 of the Carifta Games, Jamaica's gold rush in the relays provided a fitting exclamation mark to their overall dominance — but the home crowd left proud, their red-clad athletes having stood on every relay podium of the night.
