Jamaican USC sprinter Travis Williams expressed gratitude after being awarded with the Mike Simmons Fight On Award at the USC Track & Field Out Of The Blocks Banquet on Saturday.

Williams, now a senior, won the award named after former USC sprinter Mike Simmons who ran for the institution from 1975-79.

The Mike Simmons Fight On Award is given to the USC track programme athlete that has the most competitive spirit.

“I was grateful and thankful at first, not knowing until after, the greater significance of that award,” he told Sportsmax.tv.

“It was a great feeling to even be nominated to be honest. It shows that the coaches do see and award you for all the work you put in. We just have to keep doing what we do. Push forward throughout the season and continue stacking up accolades, trophies and just be great all-round,” added Williams.

A 2023 NACAC Under-23 4x100m relay champion, Williams boasts personal bests of 10.11 in the 100m and 6.52 in the 60m.

He was a 100m semi-finalist at last year’s Jamaican Championships.

Prior to transferring to USC in 2023, Williams was a star at the University of Albany where he secured the 60m and 200m double at the 2023 America East Indoor Championships.
