Jamaica’s hurdling supremacy was on full display at the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday, as Jerome Campbell and Marissa Simpson claimed victories in the men's and women's 60m hurdles, respectively. Campbell, representing Northern Colorado, blazed to a personal best and meet record of 7.55 seconds, finishing well ahead of Pittsburg State’s Daylin Williams (7.65) and Arkansas’ Brevin Sims (7.71).
In the women’s final, Jamaica swept the top three positions, with UTEP’s Marissa Simpson claiming victory in 8.20 seconds. Janela Spencer (Ohio State) finished second in 8.23, while Shania Myers rounded out the podium in 8.29.
Campbell’s 7.55-second clocking was a huge personal best and meet record, reinforcing his status as one of the rising stars in Jamaican sprint hurdling. His impressive run saw him comfortably defeat a strong field, with Williams and Sims left trailing behind.
With this performance, Campbell moves closer to securing a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships, while also putting himself on the radar for Jamaica’s senior team selection ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
The women’s 60m hurdles final saw a clean Jamaican 1-2-3 sweep, led by Simpson’s 8.20-second victory.
Spencer, who is steadily improving, clocked 8.23 seconds to take second place, while Myers ensured a complete Jamaican dominance with 8.29 for third.
This result highlights the depth of Jamaica’s female sprint hurdlers, with Simpson and Spencer emerging as strong contenders in collegiate competition and beyond.
