Baylor’s Jamaican grad student, Demar Francis, landed the Big 12 Men's Athlete of the Week honor in the first week of indoor competition, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Jamaican grad student earned his second-career recognition after an impressive performance at the season-opening meet at McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational in College Station on Friday.
Francis began the 2025 indoor season with a time of 20.93 in the men's 200m, taking home gold. The 20.93 mark ranks 1st in the Big 12, 2nd in the NCAA and 4th in the World in 2025.
Francis also won Baylor's Performer of the Week reward for his impressive run. He will next compete in the 400m at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas on Friday.
The 23-year-old is Jamaica’s current national indoor record holder in the 200m with his 20.42 done to win gold at the Big 12 Indoor Championships last February.
