Freshman standout Habiba Harris of the University of Florida continued to impress with a dominant showing in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Florida Relays, winning the final in a swift 12.69 seconds. While the time was not wind-legal and therefore doesn’t qualify as a personal best, it was an emphatic statement from the Jamaican hurdler, who had earlier clocked 12.85 in her preliminary round with legal wind.
In the final, Harris powered through the field with clean technique and raw speed to outpace Texas A&M junior Jaiya Covington (12.82) and UCF senior Adaobi Tabugbo (12.93), solidifying her status as one of the top collegiate sprint hurdlers this season.
Meanwhile, in the Olympic Development section of the 100m hurdles, Charisma Taylor of The Bahamas claimed victory with a season-best 12.82, finishing ahead of Brandee Johnson (13.14) and Sydni McMillian (13.15). Taylor’s form continues to trend upward as she targets a strong outdoor campaign leading into the championship season.
In the women’s 4x100m relay, Florida’s quartet of Quincy Penn, Anthaya Charlton (Bahamas), Habiba Harris (Jamaica), and Thalia Waters clocked 44.11 seconds for fourth overall. The event went to Texas A&M in 42.94, with Georgia (43.18)—featuring Jamaican Dejanea Oakley and Trinidad and Tobago’s Sanaa Frederick—finishing second.
In the men’s 4x100m, Malique Smith-Band of Jamaica ran the third leg for the Gators, who placed third in 39.17 seconds. Minnesota, led by Trinidad and Tobago’s Devin Augustine, won the race in 38.66.
In field action, Natricia Hooper of Guyana stole the spotlight with a winning leap of 14.05m in the women’s triple jump. Her performance was well clear of Texas A&M’s Winny Bii (13.74m) and Florida freshman Asia Phillips, who was third with 13.28m.
