Bahamian Wanya McCoy and Jamaican Marissa Simpson were among the winners at the Corky Classic at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on Friday.

McCoy, a Florida senior and a 200m semi-finalist at the Paris Olympics last year, ran 6.54 to win the men’s 60m ahead of Texas Tech senior Shawn Brown (6.59) while South Plains College sophomore Denzel Simusialela was third in 6.65.

Simpson, a senior at UTEP, ran 8.02 for the win in the women’s 60m hurdles ahead of Howard senior Marcia Sey (8.11) and North Carolina A&T senior Lucheyona Weaver (8.14).

The Trinidadian pair of Tyra Gittens-Spotsville and Janae De Gannes were second and third in the women’s long jump

Gittens-Spotsville, a four-time Trinidadian national champion and former NCAA champion in the heptathlon, produced a respectable 6.57m for second behind American Monae Nichols who produced 6.67m for victory on Friday’s first day of the two-day meet.

Baylor freshman Janae De Gannes, who won the Junior Female Athlete of the Year Award at the NAAATT Awards in early January, produced her best indoor effort, 6.43m, for third.

Elsewhere in the field, Jamaican Arizona State senior Brandon Lloyd was second in the men’s shot put with a best effort of 19.33m, .18cm shy of Arizona senior Zach Landa for victory.

In the women’s equivalent, Danielle Sloley, also a senior at Arizona State, produced 16.16m for second behind Arizona’s Tapenisa Havea (16.28m). Arizona State junior Inez Lopez was third with 16.06m.
