Jamaica’s Amoi Brown delivered a standout performance at the Tyson Invitational, claiming victory in the 60m hurdles final with a personal best of 8.01 seconds. Brown surged ahead of American Christina Clemons, who finished second in 8.11 seconds (8.104), while UCF’s Adaobi Tabugbo secured third place, also in 8.11 seconds (8.110).
The victory marks an important milestone for Brown, who continues to solidify herself as a force in sprint hurdling on the indoor circuit.
In the women’s 400m invitational, Jamaicans Stacey-Ann Williams and Nickisha Pryce delivered strong performances, finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Great Britain’s Amber Anning won the race in a meet-record 50.57 seconds (SB), while Arkansas’ Isabella Whittaker finished second in 50.87 seconds (SB).
Williams clocked a personal best 51.31 seconds to claim third place, while Pryce finished just behind in 51.71 seconds to take fourth.
The much-anticipated season debut of rising Jamaican sprint star Brianna Lyston proved anti-climactic, as she failed to start in the 60m final despite advancing with an impressive 7.13-second run in the semi-finals.
Lyston was not alone in her absence—LSU teammates Tima Godbless and Michaeda Linton also did not start the final. Godbless had entered as the fastest qualifier after running a personal best 7.08 seconds, while Linton was also set to contest the final.
With three of the top contenders missing, Indya Mayberry seized the opportunity and claimed victory in 7.22 seconds.
A similar disappointment occurred in the men’s 60m hurdles, where LSU’s Jaheim Stern had the fastest semi-final time with a personal best of 7.63 seconds but did not start the final.
With Stern missing, the final was left open for others to capitalize. The official results were under review at the time of publication.
The Tyson Invitational featured standout performances from Jamaican and Caribbean athletes, with Amoi Brown’s dominant hurdles victory, strong 400m runs from Stacey-Ann Williams and Nickisha Pryce, and the unexpected withdrawals of Brianna Lyston and Jaheim Stern making headlines.
As the indoor season continues, these athletes will be looking to build momentum ahead of major championships later in the year.
