Jamaican sprinter Kevona Davis has embarked on a new chapter in her athletic career, now training under the guidance of coach Joe Lee in Maryland. The former Edwin Allen High School standout, who graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2024, endured a collegiate career plagued by injuries that hindered her full potential. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, Davis' performances were often overshadowed by her Texas teammate, multiple-time NCAA champion Julien Alfred.

Davis spent much of the 2024 season sidelined due to injury, further stalling her progress on the track. Following her graduation, she made the unexpected decision to relocate to Maryland rather than remain in Texas, where she had been coached by Eldrick Floreal, the same coach who guided Alfred to Olympic gold in the 100m at the 2024 Paris Games. The reasons behind Davis' move remain unclear, but she has now placed her trust in Coach Lee, a respected figure in track and field development.

Lee, who confirmed to Sportsmax.TV that he is now coaching Davis, has built a reputation for mentoring young talent. Among his notable protégés is prodigious teenage quarter-miler Quincy Wilson, who won gold as part of the USA's 4x400m relay team in Paris. Davis will be hoping that her time under Lee’s guidance will help her regain form and push her towards achieving her long-anticipated breakthrough at the senior level.

Despite her injury struggles, Davis' collegiate career was not without merit. She played a key role in Texas’ relay dominance and earned multiple accolades, including being a two-time NCAA 4x100m champion (2022, 2023) and a USTFCCCA First and Second Team All-American across different events. She also clocked a wind-aided 10.83s in the 100m and 22.02w in the 200m during her time at Texas, showcasing her immense potential when healthy.

As she begins this new phase in Maryland, Davis will be aiming to rediscover her peak form and make a significant impact on the professional circuit. With a clean bill of health and a fresh training environment, she has an opportunity to fulfill the promise she showed as a junior athlete.
