Over sixty of Jamaica’s best junior athletes will have the unique benefit of undergoing performance testing by sports scientists from the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre this weekend.
A team of three Sports Scientists are on the island to perform these tests. These tests are key to a robust, injury-free strategy and will give the athletes and their coaches very important feedback as they continue to develop. These include hamstring imbalance assessment, leg power and strength, and muscle size and strength asymmetry, among others. Each athlete will receive a one-page report to take back to their coach.
The tests will be conducted at Technique Lab, 7 Tangerine Place, on Saturday morning as part of a Jamaica Athletics Administrative Associations (JAAA) Training Camp from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15, for Under-18 and Under-20 athletes.
Over 110 athletes were selected for the programme based on their performances so far this season. Invitations were sent to the athletes and their personal coaches, and over 60 accepted. The sports scientists will also do a presentation to coaches on the benefits of these types of tests. The presentation will be via Zoom and will be recorded and made available to those who are unable to attend.
This partnership with Red Bull provides an interesting intervention leading up to the National Junior and Senior Championships. It will also seek to develop a model for 2026, when Jamaica hopes to participate in the World Under-20 Championships.
