Aasia Laurencin is set to represent St Lucia at the 2025 World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China from March 21-23. Laurencin will compete in the 60m hurdles and is the island’s lone competitor at the championships, the St Lucia Athletics Association has announced.

Reigning 60m world champion Julien Alfred will not be defending her title choosing instead to focus on winning her first 100m title at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September.

With a personal best of 7.97 in the 60m hurdles, 22-year-old Laurencin is ranked 15th in the world and is expected to line up against an elite field that includes World Champion and world record holder Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, European champion Ditaji Kambundji, who ran 7.67, the second fastest time in history at the recent European Championships, Ackera Nugent, and Grace Stark among others.

Accompanying Laurencin is her coach Steven Rajewsky, who has played an instrumental role in refining her technique and preparation leading up to this major competition. His guidance and expertise have been vital in Laurencin’s development and together they aim to deliver a strong performance on the world stage.

Laurencin’s participation marks a historic milestone for St Lucia, as she becomes one of the few athletes to represent the island in the hurdles event at the highest international level.
