Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent produced an excellent performance to take top spot in the 100m hurdles in early action at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field on Saturday.
Nugent, who finished second at the recent Jamaican Championships behind Megan Tapper, went one better this time around with a fast 12.32 to win ahead of world record holder Tobi Amusan (12.38) and Kendra Harrison (12.50).
"The race was okay. My allergies were killing me but I was able to hold it together," Nugent said after the race.
"I knew that with the ladies I would be lined up with, I had to be on my A game so I came out here, followed my coach's plan and executed," she added.
Elsewhere, Jamaican University of Oklahoma discus thrower Ralford Mullings followed up his National title won last week with a runner-up finish in the discus.
Mullings, returning to the venue where he won NCAA Outdoor gold in June, produced a best throw of 68.98m in the fifth round.
Lithuanian world record holder Mykolas Alekna, who Mullings beat at the NCAA Championships, got his revenge over his rival with 70.97m in round two to take the victory.
Sweden’s Daniel Stahl threw 68.59m in round three to take third while Jamaican Olympic champion Roje Stona had to settle for fourth with a best throw of 65.62m in round four.
"It was pretty good. It was my first ever Diamond League so it was good to come out here and perform and repeat what I've been doing in practice," Mullings said after the competition.
