Battling stomach discomfort, Jamaica’s Danielle Williams relied on mental toughness and the words of her therapist to produce a winning performance at the Xiamen Diamond League on Saturday.

The two-time world champion, speaking to SportsMax.TV after her victory, revealed that she had been struggling physically since arriving in China but pushed through to claim an impressive win in the women's 100m hurdles, clocking a season-best 12.53 seconds (-0.2m/s).

"Physically, I’ve been dealing with some stomach issues since I’ve been here, so I wasn’t really feeling my best," Williams admitted. "But it was like my therapist said: it doesn’t matter the condition or how you feel – you can still show up and do your best."

Williams demonstrated exactly that grit and composure, surging past American Grace Stark over the final hurdle to seal victory. Stark finished second in 12.58, while South Africa’s Marione Fourie was third in 12.62. World record holder Tobi Amusan of Nigeria placed fourth in 12.74.

Reflecting on her race execution, Williams was satisfied with how she finished. "I feel pretty good about the execution," she said. "The start wasn’t where it needed to be, but my focus was on the last half of the race, and I was pleased with how I finished strong."

Williams' victory builds on her promising early season form, following her second-place finish at the Kingston Grand Slam earlier this month.

"The first race was the start of the season, and you try to build on every race after that," she said. "After the first race, you start to get a bit sharper as you continue to race."

Grateful for the victory in a quality field, Williams added, "Anytime you can get a win in this quality field, it's very good," giving thanks to God for her performance.
