Rising Jamaican triple jump star Jaydon Hibbert has been confirmed as the third athlete set to switch allegiance to Turkiye.

Hibbert, 20, is the current World Under-20 record holder in the triple jump thanks to his 17.87m done to win gold at the NCAA Championships in 2023.

He was a finalist at last year’s Paris Olympics, finishing just outside the medals in fourth with a best jump of 17.61m.

He claimed World Under-20 gold in 2022 after a silver medal at the same meet a year earlier.

The Travis Geopfert-coached Hibbert is now ineligible to represent Jamaica at global events for the next three years, including this year’s World Championships in Tokyo and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

He joins countrymen and Olympic medallists Roje Stona and Rajindra Campbell who have also switched allegiance to the European country.

Benefits of the move the trio will enjoy included a US$500,000 signing bonus, monthly stipends and six figure incentives for podium finishes at major championships.

Reports are also emerging that they will be joined by Olympic and World Championship long jump silver medallist Wayne Pinnock.

Attempts to contact Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA) President Garth Gayle for comment have proved futile.
