Two of Jamaica’s most outstanding junior athletes, Deandre Daley and Shanoya Douglas, will be recognized at the 46th staging of the Western Relays on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at GC Foster College in St. Catherine.

The announcement, made by Ray Harvey, chairman of the organizing committee and co-founder of Western Relays, highlights the remarkable performances of both athletes throughout the 2024 track and field season.

Daley, the former Herbert Morrison Technical sprinter, becomes a rare back-to-back recipient of the Male Junior Achievement Award—a testament to his perseverance and elite talent.

Despite a challenging start to his season, where he failed to medal at the COCAA Western Champs and missed the 100m final at ISSA Boys and Girls Champs, Daley rebounded spectacularly on the world stage.

At the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, he narrowly missed out on an individual 100m medal but delivered one of the most electrifying relay anchor legs ever seen at the junior level.

Receiving the baton in fourth place on a frigid evening, Daley unleashed an astonishing burst of speed, overtaking the field and securing Jamaica’s first men’s global sprint relay gold in years—edging out Great Britain in a dramatic photo finish that left the stadium in disbelief.

His resilience and championship mindset make him a worthy honoree at this year’s Western Relays.

Muschett High School’s Shanoya Mikalia Douglas had a season to remember, leaving track and field fans in awe as she continuously rewrote the record books.

Her 2024 campaign began with a blazing 24.16 seconds in the 200m at JC Sprint Fest on January 5. The very next day, she clocked a wind-aided 11.70 seconds in the 100m and 55.53 seconds in the 400m, setting the tone for a dominant season.

Douglas, who won the women’s 100m at the 2024 Western Relays, continued her dominance by securing the 400m title at Western Champs. At ISSA/GraceKennedy Champs, she was unstoppable, winning the Class 2 200m/400m double.

After finishing fifth in the U17 200m at CARIFTA 2023, Douglas stepped up brilliantly in 2024, winning three gold medals, including two in the relay events.

Her season culminated in bronze at the World Athletics U20 Championships in the 200m, alongside relay gold, marking a remarkable international breakthrough.

This year’s Western Relays, one of Jamaica’s premier track and field events, will continue to evolve with exciting new features.

The throw events (discus and shot put) for all high school classes will return after being successfully introduced in 2024.
The invitational 60m for clubs and institutions remains on the schedule due to high demand from senior-level coaches.
A major change for 2025: the event will now open with the 400m hurdles, a move aimed at improving scheduling efficiency.
Event Schedule (Starts at 10:00 AM)
Relays – All classes for prep, primary, high schools, clubs, and institutions
Sprints – 100m, 400m, 800m
