Jamaican-born sprinter Christania Williams expressed her satisfaction with her performances at the Liese Prokop Memorial Meeting in St. Pölten, Austria, on Thursday, where she continued her encouraging return to form on the European circuit.
Competing at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event held at the Sportzentrum Niederösterreich, the 31-year-old clocked a season-best 11.31 seconds in her preliminary heat, aided by a legal +1.3 m/s tailwind. It was the fastest time of the round and a clear signal of her growing confidence.
“I’m pleased with the times,” Williams shared after the meet. “The heat felt way better since it wasn’t so windy. I felt more in control and was able to keep my form.”
However, in the final, run with a stronger +2.6 m/s wind, Germany’s Alexandra Burghardt surged ahead to claim victory in 11.17 seconds. Williams crossed the line in second with a wind-assisted 11.21, while Austria’s Magdalena Lindner was third in 11.26.
“In the finals, I was struggling a bit,” Williams admitted. “Overall, I’m pleased with the results. This is my second race, the times are improving, so I’m happy.”
Now based in Austria, the 2018 Commonwealth Games 100m silver medallist is looking to build momentum as the season progresses. She revealed that her next outing will be in Poland this Sunday, where she hopes to continue trending in the right direction.
“I have another race coming up this Sunday in Poland. I’m looking forward to that one,” she said with a smile.
