Niesha Burgher and Marissa Simpson delivered standout performances at the 2025 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Virginia on Saturday, etching their names in the history books with dominant displays for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Burgher, fresh off her record-breaking 200m performance earlier this season, added two gold medals and a bronze to her collection while emerging as the women's high point scorer of the meet with 21.5 points. The senior sprinter continued her reign in the women’s 200m, storming to victory in a meet and facility-record 22.73 seconds, securing her third consecutive title in the event. This triumph made her the first athlete in CUSA history to win three consecutive gold medals in the women’s 200m and the first UTEP athlete to achieve such a feat.

Adding to her impressive haul, Burgher captured her first career gold in the 60m dash, clocking 7.31 seconds to edge out Liberty’s Reese Webster (7.32s). She capped off her championship campaign by contributing to UTEP’s bronze-medal finish in the 4x400m relay.

Meanwhile, Marissa Simpson continued her dominance in the women’s 60m hurdles, securing her third straight CUSA title in 8.14 seconds. Simpson is now the first hurdler since UCF’s Jackie Coward to achieve a three-peat in the event and the first UTEP athlete to accomplish the feat. She extends a streak of four consecutive years of UTEP dominance in the event, following Maribel Caicedo’s 2022 gold medal.

Burgher’s stellar showing reaffirmed her status as one of the top collegiate sprinters, while Simpson’s consistent excellence in the hurdles further cemented UTEP’s legacy in the event. The duo’s historic performances marked a golden weekend for the Miners, setting the stage for bigger achievements in the indoor season ahead.
