Borussia Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin is hopeful striker Serhou Guirassy will be ready to play a bigger part against Bayern Munich after his return from a brief illness.

Guirassy was down with a virus for a few days before returning as a substitute against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday and scoring in the 3-0 win.

He has scored six times in the Bundesliga this season, a total only bettered by Jonathan Burkardt, Tim Kleindienst (both seven), Omar Marmoush (11) and Harry Kane (14).

Guirassy's return will be a huge boost for Dortmund, who are aiming to maintain their unbeaten top-flight record at home this term, having won all six of their matches so far.

Asked whether Guirassy will start in the crunch Bundesliga clash against leaders Bayern, Sahin said: "We expect that he will be a step further."

"Obviously, he is a very important player for us. A player like him can change a game's entire structure.

"He handled his substitute appearance in Zagreb well after his illness," the Dortmund boss added.

This Saturday's meeting will be the 136th top-flight clash between the two sides, making this the most contested fixture in German professional football.

Bayern have suffered more defeats to Dortmund in all competitions than against any other side (33, most recently 2-0 at home in March).

However, Dortmund have also recorded more losses against Bayern than anyone else (67).

"It is the biggest game in Germany, the one that gets the most exposure and I think it will be the biggest for quite some time," said Sahin.

"It is special to be in this role for such a game."

Bayern have won their last five Bundesliga games without conceding a goal and can match a six-match run achieved under Pep Guardiola in 2014 if they win without conceding against Dortmund.

"Bayern defend high and that creates spaces at the back but they keep the opponents away," the Dortmund coach said.

"There will be spaces for us to play in but they have not conceded a goal in some games now."

"We have the expectation to win at home. There's no reason not to have that expectation with six wins from six home games. But the fact is Bayern are ahead on points and it is a chance for us to close the gap."

Jamaica and Manchester City striker Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw has been named among the nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for 2024.

The 27-year-old is one of 16 sensational players are in contention for the coveted prize, with the nominees selected based on their performances between 21 August 2023 and 10 August 2024.

Shaw’s performances for Manchester City during that period can only be described by one word: dominant.

In eight weeks at the turn of the year, the prolific Shaw nabbed a hat-trick of hat-tricks for her club side, on the way to joining Sam Kerr as the only non-European players to have won the Golden Boot award in England’s Women’s Super League.

Her tally of 21 league goals for Manchester City was also the joint third-highest in a single WSL campaign.

That torrent of goals also saw the Jamaican star scoop plenty of individual honours, including the WSL Player of the Season award.

The winner of the award will be announced during an awards ceremony in January 2025.

Luis Enrique said Paris Saint-Germain must stay positive ahead of their return to domestic action despite losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.

The Parisiens slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, falling to 25th place in the new 36-team standings and four points off the play-off places.

PSG have lost three of their five matches in the Champions League this season (W1 D1), their most defeats in a single group stage campaign in the competition since 2004-05 (three), the last time they failed to reach the knockout stages.

However, Luis Enrique did not want to dwell on his latest defeat, instead urging his players to continue their fine form in Ligue 1 on Saturday at home to Nantes.

"From what we saw, it was positive. We played against a contender for the final away from home," Luis Enrique said.

"I liked what I saw, despite everything, there are always points to improve. But it's important to stay positive.

"Bayern are one of the favourites to win the final. We applied the same pressure as usual. I tried to change things.

"I haven't seen a team that has troubled them more than us this season.

"I feel confident. We should have nine points in the Champions League. I'm not hiding behind that. I liked what I saw in Munich. I'm very optimistic."

PSG sit top of the Ligue 1 standings after collecting 32 points from their 12 games so far this season.

This is the sixth time they have won as many points at this stage of a campaign in the top-flight (after 1985-86, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2022-23).

And Luis Enrique can be confident that his side will return to winning ways given their impressive record against this weekend's opponents.

PSG have scored in each of their last 26 games in Ligue 1 against Nantes (64 goals in total), the longest run in their history against an opponent in the top-flight.

However, Nantes could become the team to have beaten PSG the most times in Ligue 1 in the 21st century (currently at 27, tied with Marseille), with a win on Saturday.

And despite sitting 16th in the table, Luis Enrique believes Nantes' performances this season have merited more points than the 10 they have managed so far.

"(Nantes) have fewer points than the team deserves. They're coming into the game on a run of (four league) defeats, but I'm expecting a tough game," he added.

"We need to keep racking up wins and get into good habits with a view to the Champions League."

Hansi Flick has challenged Frenkie de Jong to earn his spot in the Barcelona line-up as the Blaugrana prepare to face Las Palmas in LaLiga on Saturday.

The 27-year-old midfielder was sidelined for several months this year due to a persistent ankle injury before returning to action in October.

De Jong has featured from the bench on four occasions in the Spanish top-flight since and was withdrawn at half-time in a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad before the international break in his only start this term.

The Netherlands international was also booed during Barca's 3-0 win against Brest in the Champions League on Tuesday.

"He must deal with this situation. He must regain his confidence," Flick said.

"We look at every game to win. We want to play with the best team and based on that we make the eleven.

"He will be back, but it takes time. For me he was injured and now he is progressing well, and personally, three or four weeks ago, when he started playing, he had a different mentality.

"Now he's back after the international break and we support him, but we have a lot of midfielders. Those who are at 100% will play. He has to show the level. He is progressing, we follow him and we support him."

De Jong made 20 appearances and scored two goals for the club during the 2023-24 LaLiga season, despite ankle issues hampering his campaign on multiple occasions.

Leaders Barcelona are winless in two matches in LaLiga, having also settled for a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo last week, but enjoy a four-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.

It is a marked difference in results for Flick's side, who had won 15 of their previous 16 league matches prior to their defeat to Sociedad.

Making it more challenging for Barca is a run of five games in 19 days, when they will play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Atletico Madrid in LaLiga.

"I think I speak for the whole team when I say that the best thing today is to win Saturday's game," the Barcelona boss said.

"We don't care what happens next Tuesday or in Dortmund. What concerns us and occupies us is the game against Las Palmas. We want to build on what we saw against Brest.

"We want to show this, also to the fans. The best players will play, and those who are the best."

Flick will be boosted by the return of Lamine Yamal, who has missed their last three matches.

Barca have not won a single LaLiga game without the 17-year-old in the starting 11. They won 11 games with him starting and lost twice and drew once in matches where he did not start.

"He's back, he's ready to play. I don't know if he will start. But he will play," Flick said.

"I hope the team is well prepared. It showed in the session. Some players are coming back. We are in a good situation."

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany insists his side's recent good form counts for little ahead of their blockbuster Der Klassiker encounter with Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern earned a much-needed victory in the Champions League in midweek, beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 to move up to 13th place in the new 36-team standings.

Kompany's side have also impressed in the Bundesliga, sitting six points clear at the summit following Harry Kane's hat-trick in their 3-0 triumph over Augsburg last time out.

The Belgian boss has collected 29 points in his first 11 Bundesliga games as a coach, equalling the league record only previously achieved by Pep Guardiola with Bayern in 2012-13 and by Klaus Toppmoller with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1993-94.

They have also won each of their last five top-flight games without conceding a goal, something they last achieved under Carlo Ancelotti between February and April 2017.

They last recorded a longer run of top-flight wins coupled with clean sheets between November and December 2014 under Guardiola (six).

"The last results are gone now. I just want us to win the game tomorrow. It's the Klassiker," Kompany told a press conference on Friday.

"I like that these games have this special build-up. We all look forward to these games."

"If you look at the big picture, it's important for us not to look too much at how others see our players. It's how we see them that's important."

Bayern make the trip to the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, taking on a Dortmund side who have failed to replicate their Champions League displays in the Bundesliga.

Not helped with several injuries within their ranks, Nuri Sahin's side sit fifth in the table, 10 points behind Bayern ahead of their 136th top-flight meeting.

And despite failing to win any of their five away games in the Bundesliga so far, Dortmund have impressed on home soil.

They are the only side to have won all of their home games in the Bundesliga this season (six), with PSG and Barcelona the only other teams in Europe's top five leagues yet to drop a point at home.

Sahin is also the first Dortmund coach since the Bundesliga was founded to win each of his first eight competitive home games in charge.

BVB could now start a campaign with nine straight home wins in all competitions for the first time in professional football. Including last season, Dortmund have won each of their last 11 home matches – they have only ever enjoyed a longer run in 1994 under Ottmar Hitzfeld (14).

And Kompany is expecting a difficult test for his side, saying: "Our preparation is for the best version of the team.

"If they are top then they go high into their pressing game, they are extremely dangerous on the break with their speed on the wings.

"When they are at their best, they are also very, very good at building up the play. It's not going to be an easy game, it'll be tough."

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou played down the chances of getting a free agent goalkeeper in to replace the injured Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario underwent surgery on a broken ankle sustained during their 4-0 victory over Manchester City last weekend, though Postecoglou suggested he was happy to play Fraser Forster when asked about the possibility of a new face coming in.

"No, that is not going to happen. That's why we've got a squad of players. I don't think us signing a free agent now is going to help us. If I hadn't named Fraser [Forster] in the European squad, that would've been a radical decision," said Postecoglou.

"When you're left with two and they couldn't play in Europe, then you would kind of look at it but unless something else happened, that's why we've got four goalkeepers.

"Young Luca [Gunter], who to be fair has been injured and is not ready, but Fraser I've known for a long time and he's such a strong character within the group and he's ready to play.

"Brandon [Austin] is improving all the time. Alfie [Whiteman] has also sort of been at the club for a while and whatever has been asked, the training capacity that they bring, we are more than capable with what we've got."

When asked about Vicario's recovery following his operation, Postecoglou explained that the Italian is going to be unavailable for the long term.

"It's not going to be weeks, it's going to be months. He's had surgery and with surgery, there are certain timelines and because it is Vic," he said.

"I don't like giving timelines so early in the process on something like that because it puts undue pressure on the player and also, maybe some expectations. I think once we get past the rehab stage, we will have a clearer idea."

Fulham player Antonee Robinson, meanwhile, is heading into the match full of confidence after claiming that Tottenham "are not unbeatable by any stretch".

“We’re going to have had a little bit longer break, us playing Saturday and not having a midweek game, they’re going to have a tough game [against Roma in the Europa League on Thursday]," he said.

“So going into it, hopefully fresh legs play a bit of a factor in our favour. If we’re on form and playing how well we can play, I think we go toe to toe with anyone.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tottenham – Dejan Kulusevski

Kulusevski has scored two goals and supplied two assists in his last seven league games for Tottenham.

He finished with an assist in Tottenham's 4-0 victory over Manchester City last weekend, while he has also created more chances than any other Premier League player this season (33).

Fulham – Emile Smith Rowe

Smith Rowe has directly contributed to five Fulham goals this season, scoring three and assisting two.

His most recent goal was the opener in Fulham's last away game, in which they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in November.

MATCH PREDICTION: TOTTENHAM WIN

Tottenham come into this match having won 4-0 away to Manchester City in their last league game.

The hosts are sixth in the table with 19 points after 12 matches and have won four (L2) of their six league matches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.

Tottenham have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League home games against Fulham (W10 D3), with that 1-0 defeat coming in March 2013.

Despite beating Spurs 3-0 in their last Premier League meeting in March, Fulham were winless in their previous nine (D1 L8) against them.

Marco Silva's side have won just two (D2 L2) of their six away games in the Premier League this season.

Simona Halep has hit out at the "big difference" in how doping cases are handled in tennis after Iga Swiatek was handed a one-month ban on Thursday.

World number two Swiatek accepted the one-month suspension after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ), the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Halep, meanwhile, was provisionally suspended in October 2022 after testing positive for roxadustat and later banned for four years in September 2023.

The ban was then reduced to nine months after the Romanian's appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in March this year.

"I stand and ask myself, why is there such a big difference in treatment and judgement?" Halep posted on Instagram.

"I can't find and I don’t think there can be a logical answer. It can only be bad will from ITIA, the organisation that has done absolutely everything to destroy me despite the evidence."

While reducing Swiatek's ban, the ITIA accepted that the positive test was caused by contamination of the regulated non-prescription medication melatonin which the five-time Grand Slam champion took for jet lag and sleep issues.

Halep, 33, had also argued that she had taken a contaminated supplement.

"I lost two years of my career, I lost many nights when I couldn't sleep, thoughts, anxiety, questions without answers," Halep said.

"How is it possible that in identical cases happening around the same time, ITIA to have completely different approaches to my detriment?"

Meanwhile, the ITIA has said that there were "very important differences" between the two cases.

"No two cases are the same, they often involve different circumstances, and direct comparisons are not always helpful," the ITIA told BBC Sport.

"The product contaminated in Ms Swiatek's case was a regulated medication, not a supplement."

Joseph Suaalii has shrugged off a knock to be available for Australia's Test against Ireland on Saturday, coach Joe Schmidt confirmed.

Australia are looking to bounce back from Sunday's 27-13 defeat to Scotland in the concluding autumn Test at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Suaalii was withdrawn in the early stages of the contest against Scotland in Edinburgh amid fears that he had suffered a broken wrist.

"Joe's fine, he got one of those stingers where he had a bit of a dead arm," Schmidt said, providing an update on the 21-year-old Australia centre.

"We felt it was better to get it properly assessed, and we couldn't hold the game up to do that, so we took him out of the game against Scotland."

Against England earlier this month, rugby league convert Suaalii became only the third player after Matt Giteau and Tatafu Polota-Nau to debut for the Wallabies before playing in Super Rugby.

Schmidt, who coached Ireland from 2013 to 2019, has made five changes to his side from the defeat to the Scots.

James Slipper and Taniela Tupou have been recalled to the squad, while Jeremy Williams comes back from illness alongside Nick Frost.

Fraser McReight is also drafted into the back row while fly-half Tane Edmed is set for a first cap after finding a place among the replacements.

Meanwhile, Ireland have retained Sam Prendergast at fly-half for the autumn finale ahead of Jack Crowley.

Head coach Andy Farrell has also made five changes to an Ireland side that go into the Test on the back of a 52-17 win against Fiji.

Jamison Gibson-Park, James Lowe, Hugo Keenan, Ronan Kelleher and James Ryan all return to Farrell's side as they look to finish on a high.

An inspired and unbeaten knock of 132 from Harry Brook helped put England in the ascendancy on the second day of the first Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

With New Zealand's first innings having been wrapped up at 348 all out, the tourists had their fair share of luck while at the crease with six dropped catches from the hosts at various points throughout the day.

Despite that, England managed to finish on 319-5 at stumps.

Of those drops, four were for Brook, without whom England would surely be facing a comprehensive defeat.

It had been a salvage job from the 25-year-old, who put on a fifth-wicket partnership of 151 runs with Ollie Pope (77) before the latter was caught brilliantly by a flying Glenn Phillips at gully.

At the nadir of their innings and prior to the aforementioned partnership, England had been 71-4 thanks to some excellent New Zealand bowling, with Jacob Bethell making just 10 on his Test debut.

Following Pope's dismissal, England captain Ben Stokes came in to bat in the city of his birth. He put on an unbroken stand of 97 runs with Brook, making 37 himself and looked closer to his best.

Stokes, though, was one of three who was dropped by New Zealand captain Tom Latham while on 30 runs.

Speaking about the missed opportunities during England's innings, New Zealand's Nathan Smith was not too downhearted.

"We judge ourselves off the chances we create and we created enough out there," he told TNT Sports.

"I think a couple of catches going to hand there, it's a completely different story. But they got a couple of good partnerships and we just need to break them with the new ball tomorrow.

"The bounce is there and when the ball is a bit newer, there is some nice seam movement as well. It's just about trying to control the run rate, which is tough against these guys with the old ball.

"We probably got it a little bit wrong going wide to Brook, but I thought we brought it back nicely at the end there."

Data debrief: Brilliant Brook reaches new heights

Brook's132 brought his away-from-home batting average to 93, which puts him second in the all-time list behind Don Bradman.

The score accrued during his innings also means that he now has over 2,000 Test runs.

Brook has clocked up that total in just 36 innings, putting him eighth on the all-time quickest list to have reached 2,000 runs.

Valtteri Bottas has said that he "could see" himself driving alongside Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull.

The Kick Sauber driver will leave his current team at the end of the season, with Nico Hulkenberg and F2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto replacing their current line-up of Bottas and Zhou Guanyu for 2025.

Meanwhile, Red Bull has struggled to find a consistent second driver for Verstappen with Sergio Perez enduring another difficult season as he sits eighth in the championship with 152 points - compared to his team-mate's haul of 403 on the way to a fourth consecutive title.

It has left Red Bull third in the Constructors' Championship with 555 points, trailing both McLaren (608 points) and Ferrari (584) with races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi left.

Quizzed whether he would consider a move to Red Bull, Bottas said: “You know, I could see myself filling that role. I’m really confident I would do a good job, but for now the answer has been no.

“I think there’s certain people or a certain person within the organisation that is against me for some reason, but that’s their loss.”

Red Bull had also announced earlier this year that Mexican driver Perez will stay at the team till the end of the next season.

It leaves an unfilled seat at RB as Bottas' only realistic option for next season, while a reserve driver role at his former team Mercedes might also be up for grabs after the recent departure of Mick Schumacher.

Bottas was part of the Mercedes set-up between 2017 and 2021 as they won five consecutive Constructors' Championships, with the Finn winning 10 races and playing a key role in Lewis Hamilton's four title wins during the period.

“Obviously really honoured that [Toto Wolff] would be willing to take me back to the Mercedes family, which is great. It’s a really solid option for me for the future," said Bottas, ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix.

“Of course, there’s still many details we’ve got to discuss, like how much I would actually get to drive because I want to drive, whether it’s about testing and stuff like that. We’re discussing but there’s no need to rush.”

Bottas has 67 podiums from 244 races since beginning his F1 career with Williams in 2013.

Manchester City's season is swiftly getting away from them.

Pep Guardiola's team were on course to get back on track when they led Feyenoord 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday. Yet it finished 3-3 and the Premier League champions' winless run extended to six matches across all competitions.

City became the first team in Champions League history to lead a match by three goals as late as the 75th minute and fail to go on to win.

They failed to win a match in which they led by three goals for the first time in all competitions since May 1989 against Bournemouth in the second tier (3-3), while for the first time in his managerial career, Guardiola saw a team of his fail to win a match in which they were leading by three goals.

City have also lost their last three Premier League games, as many as they had in their previous 47 combined (W35 D9). They last lost four consecutive league games between April-August 2008.

According to the Opta supercomputer, they now have just a 12.6% chance of retaining the title.

So, a trip to Anfield to face Arne Slot's rampant Liverpool – who are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday – is hardly the match Guardiola would have wanted as he looks to get City back on course.

Here, we preview a huge clash.

What's expected?

Perhaps not since Liverpool's title-winning campaign in 2019-20 has there been such a gulf in form between these two rivals. A win for Liverpool could see them go 11 points clear – in Premier League history, only three teams have overcome a deficit of more than 11 points to go on and win the title (Manchester United in 1992-93 and 1995-96, and Arsenal in 1997-98).

As it stands, Liverpool have a 74.8% chance of winning the title.

The onus really is on City, then, to snap their dismal run of form, but Opta's supercomputer makes Liverpool the favourites, with a 45.3% win likelihood. City came out on top in 29.9% of the data-led simulations, while there is a 24.8% chance of a draw.

The Citizens have won just one of their last 21 Premier League away games against Liverpool (D7 L13), beating them 4-1 in February 2021. They have not won at Anfield with fans in attendance since May 2003 (2-1).

Liverpool have won just one of their last nine Premier League games against City (D5 L3), a 1-0 home victory in October 2022.

The away side has won just six of the 54 Premier League meetings between Liverpool and City, the lowest percentage of any fixture to be played more than 30 times in the competition (11%).

Slot's machine keeps paying out

Maybe only in his wildest dreams would Slot have hoped for such a strong start to his Liverpool tenure, especially given the size of the shoes he had to fill at Anfield.

The Guardiola-Jurgen Klopp rivalry lit up English football for the last eight years, but Slot has swiftly made this Liverpool team his own.

This will be Slot's first meeting with both Manchester City and their manager Guardiola. None of Liverpool's last six managers have lost their first league meeting with England’s reigning champions (W4 D2), since Roy Evans' 1-0 loss to Manchester United in 1993-94.

Liverpool's only Premier League defeat so far this season was a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield. They have won seven of their eight league games since (D1), scoring at least twice in seven of those games.

No manager in Premier League history has reached 10 wins in fewer matches from the start of their career in the competition than Slot (12 games, level with Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti).

In contrast to the rampant attacking of the Klopp era, Liverpool's foundations have been built on a strong defence. They have kept more clean sheets (six) than any other team in the top flight this term, and conceded just eight goals (at least four fewer than any other side and nine fewer than Manchester City). Their 10.75 expected goals against (xGA) is also the lowest total in the competition.

Not that the Reds' attack hasn't been on point. Tottenham (27) are the only team to score more goals than Liverpool (24) in the Premier League in 2024-25, while Slot's side have the third-highest xG (23.6) and have had the highest number of big chances (defined by Opta as an opportunity from which a player would reasonably be expected to score), with 48.

The big question is how Slot's possession-based system will match up against City's. But it is all clicking for the Dutchman so far.

The boys with the blues

City have not lost four Premier League games in a row within a single season since 2007 when they suffered five consecutive losses to Blackburn Rovers, Reading, Portsmouth, Wigan Athletic and Chelsea between January and March.

But a defeat at Anfield would see them match that unwanted slice of history.

In his managerial career, Guardiola has only lost more games against Tottenham (nine) than he has against Liverpool (eight).

He has won just six of his 22 meetings with the Reds (27%), his lowest win rate against any side he has faced more than five times in all competitions.

City have won five of their last six Premier League games against sides starting the day top of the table (D1). However, their last such defeat was a 3-1 loss against Liverpool at Anfield in November 2019, with the Reds going on to win the title that season.

Defensively, City have been all over the place. Their 15.9 xGA means they are averaging 1.3 xGA per game, whereas last season in the Premier League, they finished with 35.9 xGA (an average of 0.9 per match).

Erling Haaland, for all his talent, has squandered some big chances, albeit he is still performing slightly above his xG (12 goals from 11.9 xG). City are underperforming their xG as a team by 2.4 (22 goals from 24.4 xG).

Problems in both boxes, then, for Guardiola to solve.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Liverpool - Mohamed Salah

Salah netted twice to help Liverpool to a 3-2 comeback win over Southampton last week and has made headlines this week when he claimed after that victory at St Mary's that he was yet to be offered any sort of contract by the club – his current deal expires at the end of the season.

If this is to be Salah's last campaign at Liverpool, he is doing his very best to go out on a high note. As well as having the most goals and assists combined in the Premier League this season (16), Salah’s goal involvements have also been worth a league-high 17 points to Liverpool this term.

Salah has scored seven times in the league against Manchester City for Liverpool, while he needs just two more top-flight goals at Anfield to bring up his 100th for the Reds at their home ground.

Manchester City - Ilkay Gundogan

Three of Gundogan’s four Premier League goals against Liverpool have come at Anfield, with no City player scoring more away against the Reds in the competition’s history (Nicolas Anelka also three).

His next appearance will be his 200th in the Premier League, while if Manchester City win here, he would be the third player to win as many as 150 of his first 200 appearances in the competition (currently 149 – Bernardo Silva won 153 and Ederson 151 of first 200).

Gundogan would be only the third German player to hit the landmark of 200 Premier League games after Robert Huth (322), Dietmar Hamann (268) and Pascal Gross (228).

Rasmus Hojlund has urged Manchester United fans to be patient as Ruben Amorim gets his feet under the table at Old Trafford.

Hojlund scored twice as United came from 2-1 down to beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the Europa League on Thursday.

It was hardly the most convincing of victories for new boss Amorim, whose side drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town in his first Premier League match in charge.

But a victory will nevertheless grow confidence at United, who welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday.

And Hojlund says the squad will take time to adapt to their new head coach.

"Obviously it's going to take time and we can already see some patterns," he said.

"Now for us, it's time to build."

Hojlund also feels he is well-suited to Amorim's preferred formation.

He added: "For me, this system reminds me of how I played in a 3-4-3 at Atalanta. It suits me well."

United ended Thursday's game with 20 shots and 2.6 expected goals (xG), and Amorim believes there are plenty of positives to build on ahead of facing Everton.

"The result, that's the most important thing, the environment," he said.

"I think we improved since the game against Ipswich. [We] improved the quality on the ball, created more chances, [we were] more dangerous.

"We tried to press all the time in the last 10 minutes, it was tough. I felt some players were really, really tired.

"We made four substitutes because of the fitness of players not thinking what was best for the game. we need the players together fit, you have to take some risks."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Manchester United - Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford – who scored United’s first goal under Amorim after just 81 seconds against Ipswich – has been involved in five goals in his last seven Premier League games against Everton (two goals, five assists), netting in his last two.

He is two goals away from becoming the sixth player to score 50 in the Premier League at Old Trafford for the Red Devils.

Everton - Dwight McNeil

Including crosses, only Andreas Pereira (103) has played more passes into the opposition box in the Premier League this season than McNeil (101).

Indeed, McNeil's 30 chances created this term is almost twice as many as any other Toffees player (Ashley Young is second, on 16).

MATCH PREDICTION: MANCHESTER UNITED WIN

Since the start of last season, Amorim has won all 22 of his home league games in charge of Sporting CP by an aggregate score of 72-13.

Everton have failed to score in more different Premier League games than any other side this season (six), though only Liverpool (six) and United (five) have kept more clean sheets than the Toffees (four). Sean Dyche's team have already had three 0-0 draws this term, last having more in 2015-16 (four).

Both of Everton's last two Premier League games have finished 0-0 – only once in their league history have they had three consecutive goalless draws, doing so in February 1982.

United have won 41 Premier League games against Everton, more than any side has beaten another in the competition's history.

Everton have won just one of their last 31 Premier League away games against United (D8 L22), picking up a 1-0 victory in December 2013.

The Red Devils have won their last four Premier League games against Everton, last having a longer such run between December 1999 and February 2004 (nine).

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

Manchester United - 60.2%

Everton - 18.7%

Draw - 21.1%

Jared Goff threw a pair of touchdown passes to Sam LaPorta and Jake Bates kicked three field goals as the Detroit Lions held off the Chicago Bears, 23-20, for their 10th straight victory on Thursday.

The Bears had the ball in Lions territory late in the game with a chance to drive for a game-tying field goal or go-ahead touchdown, but they blew the opportunity.

Caleb Williams threw an incomplete pass as time expired from the Detroit 41 after being sacked with about 30 seconds left, allowing time to run off the clock even though Chicago had one more timeout.

The NFC-leading Lions (11-1) have their best record after 12 games in team history and their 10-game winning streak ties a franchise record with the 1934 squad.

It was the sixth consecutive loss for the Bears, who dropped to 5-17 in games decided by seven or fewer points under coach Matt Eberflus.

Goff's second touchdown pass to LaPorta, a 1-yard toss, gave Detroit a 23-7 lead late in the third quarter. The score was set up by Jameson Williams' 15-yard reverse, which included him hurdling Kevin Byard to gain several extra yards.

Packers start fast in win over Dolphins

Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes to Jayden Reed and the Green Bay Packers used a fast start to beat Miami 30-17 and snap the Dolphins’ three-game winning streak.

Green Bay (9-3) has won three straight and seven of its last eight.

Miami (5-7) continued its recent history of struggling in cold weather. The kickoff temperature at Lambeau Field was 27 degrees (-2.7 Celsius) with 10-mph winds, light flurries and a wind chill of 18.

The Dolphins have lost their past 11 regular-season or postseason games in which the kickoff temperature has been below 40 degrees (4.4 Celsius). The Dolphins’ most recent victory in a game with a kickoff temperature at 40 or lower was a 34-31 overtime triumph at Buffalo on Dec. 24, 2016.

Love was 21 of 28 for 274 yards, while Miami's Tua Tagovailoa went 37 of 46 for 364 yards with two touchdowns, though he also was sacked five times.

Cowboys hold off lowly Giants

DeMarvion Overshown returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown and Rico Dowdle had his first career 100-yard game as the Dallas Cowboys earned their first home win of the season, 27-20 over the New York Giants.

Cooper Rush threw a TD pass, and Dowdle finished with 112 yards and a score to help the Cowboys (5-7) end a six-game home losing streak going back to a wild-card loss to Green Bay last season.

Drew Lock, who started in place of the injured Tommy DeVito a week after the benching and subsequent release of Daniel Jones, lost a fumble following Overshown's pick-6 in a seventh consecutive loss for the Giants (2-10).

Lock ran for 57 yards and a touchdown that ended up being too late to avoid New York's eighth consecutive loss to its NFC East rival.

The Giants had their first lead since Week 5 before Overshown's dynamic play put Dallas back in front for good in the second quarter. The Cowboys led for just 2 minutes, 15 seconds during their six-game skid at AT&T Stadium.
