Nine-time world champion continues to put us all to shame with her altruism.

The two-time Olympic champion, who now has another year to prepare for the Olympics, is making good use of her downtime now that the 2020 Tokyo Games have been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The government of Jamaica has shut down the island’s schools in a bid to protect students, their parents and teachers from the deadly virus that has infected more than half-a-million people around the world, killing more than 22,000 of them.

Some of these students might have been in need and this reality was not lost on the Jamaican sprint queen who through her foundation, has reached out to them.

She posted this on her Facebook page on Thursday:

“As schools remain closed, SFP through her Pocket Rocket Foundation is extending a helping hand to our 18 student-athletes currently on academic scholarships.

Thirty-six (36) care packages, packed with basic food items and just enough snacks to help them weather the current crisis. Each scholarship recipient will receive two shopping bags. “We even topped it off with $600 phone credit per student-athlete courtesy of Digicel.”

The recipients included Shemar Willis, Rajiv Redhi, Jevaughn Blake, Danielle Kent, Liana Campbell, Omarion Davis, Delojauntae Henry, Rashane Bartlett, Aleisha Robinson, Sherene Williams, Daniel Binns, Giana Lewis, Shanae Blake, Dominique Clarke, Julianna Mederios, Akalia Barnes, Abigail McIntosh and Atena Rayson.

The gesture is even more incredible considering how disappointed she must be that the Olympic Games that were set for July 24-August 9 would have presented her with the chance to win three Olympic 100m gold medals and become the first-ever female sprinter to accomplish that feat.

She would have no doubt gone into the Olympics as a strong favourite after she won an unprecedented fourth 100m title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha last September.
