Travis Williams backed up his 6.59s 60m dash at Millrose Games on February 11, by winning the sprint-double at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday.
The 19-year-old University at Albany sophomore clocked a championship and conference record 6.64 to finish streets ahead of Shavar Staats of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, who was almost 0.20 behind in 6.83 while Cole Martin of Maine was third in 6.84.
Williams’ time broke his teammate Shakur Williams’ championship record of 6.87 set in 2022 and the America East record of 6.75 set by John Alkins of Binghamton in 2017.
He was just getting warmed up as he later took gold in the 200m in 20.89, also championship and conference record.
The previous marks of 21.23 and 20.98 were set by Albany’s Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina in 2022 and 2020, respectively.
Meanwhile, Dominique Clarke also of Albany won the 200m in an Albany sweep while setting a championship record 23.69 ahead of teammates Jazmen Newberry, who ran 23.85 and Rori Lowe 24.05.
The Jamaican also won the 60m dash in another Albany sweep, clocking 7.45.
Adaliz Hunt (7.60) and Rori Lowe (7.64) were second and third, respectively.
Clarke broke her own championship record of 7.55 set in 2022.
