Sunshine Girl Fowler-Reid all clear after knee-injury scare

By October 12, 2018

Head coach of Jamaica’s netball team, the Sunshine Girls, has allayed fears that her top goal shooter Jhanielle Fowler-Reid might not be available for the next match against England’s Roses on Saturday because of injury.

Fowler-Reid left the court during the third quarter of Thursday night’s 55-43 win over England at the National Indoor Sports Centre. She was seen limping from the court, prompting fears that she might have hurt her oft-injured knee.

However, head coach Marvette Anderson told SportsMax.TV on Friday that the ace shooter will be ready to go when the two teams meet again 48 hours later.

“She is okay. I just took her out as a precaution,” she said while giving assurances that the towering shooter will start the next game.

Fowler-Reid, who was the leading scorer in Australia’s Suncorp Super Netball League this past season, scored 34 of her 35 shot attempts on Thursday night.

The player, in a post-match interview on Thursday, also indicated that she was fine.

However, knee injuries are not new to the Jamaican star.

In August, the West Coast Fever expressed concern about Fowler-Reid after she suffered a knee injury during the team’s semi-final win over the Giants. The player, who reportedly had a niggle before that game, had spent about a quarter of the match on the bench receiving treatment but was able to play out the game.

Coach Stacey Marinkovich explained afterwards that the player was “pretty sore" and she hoped that a medical examination would not turn up any serious issues.

Back then, Fowler-Reid had a week off before she played in the final. Saturday’s match is 48 hours after Thursday’s win over England.
